Every month we are profiling people in our team to let you know more about Phoenix. This month: Andy McCormack.
Andy is the Manager of the Contract Team, one of the busiest and certainly one of the noisiest corners of the office. Typically when their clients need someone they need them right now, and they need them to have specific, superior skills.
"Funnily enough I have never had a client ask me for an average performer!" laughs Andy. "We usually find that we have to provide someone who can hit the road running, although reports from candidates tell us that they love contracting because of the new things they learn at each assignment."
Are there enough people around?
"We always seem to manage to find the right person from somewhere, although sometimes it takes the whole team on the phones," says Andy.
To balance the adrenaline rush of managing a busy team of contract recruiters, Andy spends Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings counselling people, mainly men; there is a shortage of qualified male counsellors, who men sometimes prefer to relate their difficulties to.
With a new baby son at home Andy also tries to work from home, which is made easier with remote access and telephone contact.
"I wouldn’t like to do that full time however: it is good to get the buzz from being in the office and of course my team mates are fun to be around."
